About Plinth Architecture
Founded in 2019, Plinth Architecture is a small, family-run business offering highly personalized, responsive, and environmentally conscious design services to residential and commercial clients in Midcoast and Downeast Maine.
Chris Bakkila serves as design and architectural lead. Chris holds a B.A. from Columbia University and an M.Arch from the University of Michigan. With more than 30 years’ experience in architectural design and project leadership, Chris has a broad understanding of building typologies, designing and overseeing the construction of everything from academic research laboratories to museum exhibit spaces to state-of-the-art breweries. A LEED accredited professional, all of Chris’s work is informed by his deep commitment to sustainable design, from overseeing large-scale LEED projects to renovating historic homes in thoughtful ways that allow old buildings to meet new needs.
Chris’s wife, Kat Stefko, serves as office manager and design and historical research consultant. Kat holds a B.A. from Oberlin College, and M.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, and M.S.L.I.S from Simmons University.
Their daughter, Betty Bakkila, serves as color and design consultant. Betty is currently a Senior in Visual Arts at Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan and will attend the Rhode Island School of Design in the Fall.
